This is one of my all-time favorite photos. My Grampy was, in this realm, my best friend. Even after leaving the physical world many moons ago, I still feel his constant guidance and protection. I think of him everyday, but Remembrance Day, or Veteran's Day in America, always provides the opportunity to really reflect, not only on his role as my grandfather and spirit guide, but also as a veteran of WWII. He and my grandmother both fought in the war, he was one of "The Originals" in the North Nova Scotia Highlanders, she served in the Royal Artillery Anti-Aircraft Division as one of the "Bow and Arrow Girls" (#1 on the Height Finder). I have so much appreciation and respect for my grandparents, and all veterans, for fighting a war of justice and social liberty. My heart is heavy over the wars we fight today in the name of resources or land, but to die fighting for the rights of all human beings to live freely, that is true valor
